🔴 EU “Deeply Concerned” — Again — A Dictator Driven by Insecurity and Bloodshed
In a stunning display of irrelevance, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos visited Serbia on 29 and 30 April to once again have a nice chat with officials of Aleksandar Vučić’s increasingly authoritarian regime — as well as a few protesters, just to keep up appearances.
While standing in Belgrade, Kos proudly announced that she had discussed the "urgent need" for Serbia to implement reforms it already promised ages ago — like adopting media laws, tweaking the electoral system, and appointing a new batch of regulators to pretend that state propaganda isn’t fully in charge. Groundbreaking stuff.
With all the gravitas of someone offering a strongly worded Post-it note, Kos reminded everyone that the European Commission and Parliament are "closely monitoring" the situation — presumably through a telescope from Brussels, making sure not to interfere in any meaningful way.
“I love to stress that Serbia’s choice is to become part of the EU,” Kos said, beaming with optimism, as if Vučić hadn’t spent the past decade cozying up to autocrats, threatening journalists, or using state violence on protesters. “And that choice comes with responsibility,” she added, before boarding a plane back to Brussels where no consequences ever seem to be drafted.
Kos also assured us that the EU will generously support Serbia in its "transformation" — a word that apparently now includes media suppression, electoral fraud, and low-grade dictatorship.
Asked about the possible diplomatic fallout if Vučić attends Russia’s Victory Day parade on May 9, Kos diplomatically noted that 1945 and 2025 are “completely different situations.” Indeed — back then, we were fighting fascism; now we’re just inviting it to accession talks.
Meanwhile, Vučić continues consolidating power, persecuting dissenters, and laughing all the way to Moscow — with the EU’s endless patience and polite encouragement paving the path.
Serbia's Shocking Police Violence Case: A Deeper Reflection of a Broken System
Serious concerns over police violence and judicial leniency have emerged in Serbia following reports that a member of the Gendarmerie abused his former partner at gunpoint, with prosecutors seeking a sentence of only one year for the offense.
Branislav T., 29, a member of Serbia’s paramilitary police force, is accused of physically and psychologically assaulting his ex-partner for 15 minutes inside a public café in the city of Šabac. Eyewitnesses and video footage show that he cocked his official service pistol and pressed it against the woman’s head multiple times, while threatening to kill both her and her 10-year-old son. The suspect had reportedly been stalking and harassing the victim and her acquaintances for months.
Despite the gravity of the crimes, prosecutors have reportedly proposed a maximum sentence of just one year in prison—a move that has provoked widespread condemnation from civil society groups, legal experts, and citizens. Critics argue this reflects a broader pattern of state tolerance for violent behavior among security forces.
Human rights advocates claim the case illustrates the erosion of rule of law under Dictator Aleksandar Vučić, whose corrupt government has faced growing criticism for authoritarianism, suppression of dissent, and politicization of the judiciary.
“The fact that someone who terrorized a woman and threatened a child with a loaded weapon may walk free within months is a terrifying indictment of Serbia’s justice system,” said one Belgrade-based activist.
Opposition figures and watchdog organizations warn that such cases are not isolated, and that systemic abuse and impunity within law enforcement are being used to intimidate citizens and stifle opposition under Vučić’s increasingly autocratic rule.
The Serbian government has not yet commented publicly on the case.
